Trio of goaltenders tabbed NOJHL Eastlink Playoff 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltenders Eric Schuch of the Soo Thunderbirds, Taylor Unruh of the Cochrane Crunch and Brayden Lachance of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians have been named its Eastlink TV Playoffs 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending April 1.

ERIC SCHUCH, (G) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In four starts, including a pair of must-win contests, Schuch registered three victories and an overtime setback.

The 19-year-old from Holland, Mich., began with two clutch triumphs over the rival Soo Eagles to complete a come from behind 4-3 series win.

Moving on to the West final vs. Rayside-Balfour, Schuch posted his second NOJHL playoff shutout in Game 1 before suffering an OT defeat in Game 2 against the Canadians.

For the week he sported a 1.43 goals-against average along with a solid .956 save percentage.

TAYLOR UNRUH, (G) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The veteran netminder, who is in his final season of Jr. A hockey, improved to 5-0 in the playoffs with two home ice victories over Timmins last week to open the East Division final.

In all the Regina, Sask., product turned aside 45 of the 48 shots he faced to register a 1.50 average and a .938 save mark for the week.

Dating back to the regular season Unruh has a 15-2-0 record in his past 19 appearances.

BRAYDEN LACHANCE, (G) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – Lachance’s stellar play has helped the Canadians enter Game 3 of the West final vs. the Thunderbirds tied at a game apiece.

In the series opener against the Thunderbirds he did all his could making 30 stops in a 2-0 Game 1 loss Friday.

The following night he kept his club in it long enough to aid in their 3-2 come from behind overtime triumph to level the proceedings.

His statistics for the week saw the 20-year-old from Sudbury have a 1.82 GAA along with a .947 SV%.
