Hockey Operations & Staff

Jeff Forsyth
Jeff was named General Manager of the Rayside Balfour Canadians in June 2019. He joins the Canadians after 8 years of coaching with the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves of the GNML, and 3 years as the Northern Ontario Scout for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League.
During his 8 years with the Nickel Capital Wolves (2010-2018) the team won 4-GNML(NOHA) Championships, 1-OHF Championship (2011-12) and represented the Central Region 2X at the National Championship Telus Cup in Leduc, Alberta 2012 and in Sudbury, Ontario 2018. During those years he spent time coaching at numerous different levels of minor hockey along with sitting on the SMHA Board of Directors. In 2014 Forsyth was selected as an Assistant Coach with the OHA Cup-Team NOHA Major Midget AAA and spent 2 seasons as a player evaluator for Team NOHA. Moving to the OHL Wolves in 2016, Forsyth was the local eyes for 3 drafts with the OHL Wolves Organization. Jeff was responsible for the primary talent evaluation for Owen Robinson, Joe Mazur, Chase Stillman, Alex Vendette, Parker Savard, Samuel Vachon and Giordano Biondi.
Moving away from the bench into his new role Jeff will be responsible for the hockey operations and is looking forward to working with ownership, staff, and players to reach their ultimate goal. Jeff looks forward to bringing the faithful fans of Rayside an exciting 2019-20 NOJHL season.
Jeff resides in Sudbury with his wife Tammy, daughter Avery, and son Rylan.

Carrington Ryan
Player Mental Health Support

Carrington Ryan earned her Bachelors of Social Work at Laurentian University. Carrington is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and has vast experience in different social work roles.

Carrington has a strong emphasis on client centered care and mental health knowledge. Carrington has the experience necessary to assist individuals with various mental health struggles. In her role “Player Mental Health Support”,

Carrington provides counselling to support individuals facing mental health struggles within their daily life.

Carrington believes that healing is a collaborative endeavour that requires a holistic approach. Carrington is also bilingual and offers services in English and French. Carrington is currently completing her Master of Social Work at Laurentian University.

Blaine Smith
Sudbury native and former Sudbury Wolves’ President, Governor and General Manager brings 31 years of OHL experience with him to the Canadians organization.   Smith has developed an extensive hockey network with OHL team owners, managers, scouts and player agents.  Smith also served as Team President of the Sudbury Jr. Wolves that won NOJHL championships in 2006 and 2008.   Smith is pleased to support second-year GM Jeff Forsyth as the team strives to become a champion both on and off the ice.


Vagelli Sakellaris

The native of Sudbury, Ontario enters his 1st season as Head Coach of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians after having spent 2 seasons as an assistant coach with the organization.

Prior to his time with the Canadians, Sakellaris spent one season as an assistant coach with the Espanola Express and several seasons as both assistant coach and head coach within the Sudbury Minor Hockey association most notably helping the Sudbury Nickel Capital AAA Midgets win the all-Canadian Championship – Telus Cup.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Sakellaris played his Junior hockey with both the Rayside-Balfour Sabre Cats and the Sudbury Northern Wolves.

Sakellaris lives in Sudbury with his wife and two sons.
