Canadians Sweep January Remain Undefeated!

(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Rayside-Balfour Canadians completed the January sweep with a perfect 8-0 record. Last night at the Chelmsford arena, the Canadians hosted the defending Dudley cup champions the Hearst Lumberjacks. In an absolute thriller, the Canadians kept the streak alive winning in a shootout 3-2.

Hearst came out of the gate strong opening up the scoring under-manned on a 5 on 3 penalty kill, however Raysides Nick DeGrazia quickly rallied & tallied one on that same power play to even the score at 1-1. The Canadians jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd period with another power play marker by Nick DeGrazia. However, Hearst evened the score 2-2 with just 7 minutes left in the 3rd period.

After a hard-fought over-time, the Canadians and Lumberjacks found themselves in a shootout. Mitchell Martin opened the scoring with his 5th shootout goal (5/7 this season). David Bowen shut the door on the Lumberjacks and Nick DeGrazia put the finishing touches scoring the shootout winner with a dazzling move freezing the Hearst goaltender.

The Rayside-Balfour Canadians finish January with a perfect record and are undefeated to start 2020.

Rayside looks to keep the ball rolling and put their streak on the line Friday February 7th, when they take to the road to face the Elliot Lake Wildcats. On Sunday February 9th the team will return home to battle the Soo Thunderbirds at the Chelmsford Arena. This game is sponsored by Chartrand’s Your Independent Grocer. Game time is 6:30PM
