(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Rayside Balfour Canadians Jr. ‘A’ will be looking to make it six straight wins Thursday as they host the Espanola Express at the Chelmsford Arena.
The Canadians will try to build off their most complete victory of the season, a 2-1 victory over the Soo Eagles Wednesday night in Michigan. Rookie Mitchell Martin scored his first NOJHL goal 50 seconds into the game, and Joel Mongeon scored the game winner in the third period to help lift the Canadians to their fifth straight win. David Bowen was stellar in the crease for the Canadians, stopping 39 of the 40 shots he faced.
Rayside enters Thursday’s home contest against a familiar foe, the Espanola Express. The West Division rivals battled last Friday in Espanola, with the Canadians coming away with an 8-3 victory. Brown, Smith (2), Boucher, Belanger, Giroux (2), and Bertrand all found the back of the net for the Canadians to help catapult the Canadians to their highest goal output of the season.
Nicholas Heinzle secured his first NOJHL win against the Express, stopping 31 of 34 shots in his second start in a Canadians uniform. Friday’s game was also a milestone for Flint Firebirds prospect Zacharie Giroux, who scored his first two NOJHL goals.
Game time Thursday is 7:00 PM at the Chelmsford Arena. Tickets for Thursday’s game can be purchased at the door prior to the game. Admission for adults is $12, seniors $10, and free for youth under 7. Season tickets are still on sale for the 2019-20 Canadians season.
