CANADIANS ACQUIRE LOCAL DEFENCEMAN

The defending West Division Champion Rayside Balfour Canadians are pleased to announce the acquisition of 6’1”, 180 lb defenceman CHRIS INNES from the Timmins Rock. In exchange, the Rock receive a development fee.
The skilled 17-year-old rearguard is an outstanding defenceman with the Sudbury Nickel Capital Major Midgets and was selected by the OHL Sarnia Sting in the 12th round of the 2019 OHL U16 Priority Selection.

Last season, the left-shot defenceman recorded 25 points in 31 games with the Sudbury Nickel Capitals. During the 2018-19 season, as a call-up from the Sudbury Minor Midgets, Innes scored 5 goals in 8 games with the Nickel Capitals before joining them in the play-offs where the smooth-skating rearguard recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 games.

“We are very fortunate to acquire a young skilled defenceman of Chris’ ability at this key point of the season” notes Canadians General Manager Jeff Forsyth. “We look forward to providing Chris with the opportunity to develop his skills with us this season.”
Forsyth adds, “It is always great to add a local player of Chris’ abilities and we are confident that he will fit-in very well with our young core group of talented players that we have here in Rayside.”

Innes is expected to join his new teammates this weekend as the Canadians are scheduled to begin practicing for two weeks at the Chelmsford Arena prior to playing their West Division rivals – the Sault Ste Marie Thunderbirds next!
